FreeBSD（読み方：フリービーエスディー）とは
FreeBSDとは、PC(パソコン)上で動作するUNIX系のOSで、そのソースコードは公開されており、無料のOSです。
Yahoo！やライブドア、2ちゃんねるなどの大規模サイトで採用されています。
Windowsからの乗り換えを考えている人はX-Window環境を入れればGUIで操作ができます。
　　特徴①使用料不要で、安価なパソコン（PC/AT互換機）で動く。
　　　　　②WindowsほどのCPUパワーを必要としないので，386マシンなどの廃物利用が可能である。
　　　　　③フリーソフトを使って，サーバを立ち上げられる。
　　　　　④ソフトウェアのインストール時には，packageを使えば苦労がいらない。
　　　　　⑤packageに無いものは，portsコレクションから容易にコンパイルできる。
　　　　　⑥日本語のマニュアル、ハンドブックが揃っている。

　　　　　⑦ノートパソコンやモバイルパソコンにもインストールできる。
